Positioning Your Web-based Product
When you market your start-up, one important question to ask yourself is, "Are we selling a technology or a philosophy?" They are both equally valid directions and have their place, but too often start-ups aren't clear about this. If the core value of your product is about filling a technology need, then keep your marketing and communications focused on the product. How does it work? Where does it work? Is it hard to learn? However, if your product is about solving one of life's challenges, then keep your conversation focused on those problems and less on exactly how it addresses them. How will it save me time? Will it make my life better? What other types of people are using it? By answering the right questions for your customers, you'll have a much better shot at helping them understand the product's value.
